James is such a good Scout. He set a goal to earn his Eagle before he enters high school. It looks like he will reach his goal. On Saturday, March 8th, James did his Eagle Project. It took months to plan and James showed real leadership through the whole process. He contacted the WILL foundation (which stands for "Walk Into Life and Learn" — a sustainable and self-sufficient Eco-Learning Center for Disadvantaged Children) to see if they needed a project. The owner liked some of James’ ideas so invited John and James to their Center to discuss them further. It is located about 1 hour away. They agreed to have James and his troop build a picnic table and paint seven door frames. The plans for building a picnic table came from John’s brother, Paul who made similar tables as a fundraiser in their MI ward. James borrowed some tools and bought the supplies at B&Q (a store similar to Home Depot). He made several phone calls and passed around sign ups to see who could help. Our branch president is a designer for GM and volunteered to sketch the designs on the door frames and then the the scouts would paint them. John and James cut all the pieces of wood in advance and made sure they had everything ready for the big day. James assigned me to bring snacks and water for the group.
James felt so supported by the great turnout of help. The boys at the WILL foundation love their new table! The director said they have used it everyday! Way to go James!!
