End of Summer 2017

Everyone was anticipating the solar eclipse that was to happen on August 21st.  We didn’t get serious about wanting to watch it until a few days before.  By then all the glasses were sold out.  We heard the U of M would be handing out glasses.  We arrived about an hour early and stood in a very long line.  They were handing out one pair of glasses per family.  Lucky for us we got the 9th to last pair. Some friends from the ward arrived later.  So 11 of us shared one pair of glasses.  James was very excited for this event that he attracted a news reporter that interviewed him.  James shared that he had checked out two books from the library to prepare for this event.  Tessa and Mia were not that thrilled and were hot and ready to go home before the eclipse began.  John said at work that day they handed out glasses to all the interested Ford employees.

On August 24th, the Saline football team was invited to play at U of M’s Big House.  School hadn’t even started so we didn’t really know how exciting of an event this was.  The Dolbins from our ward helped us get tickets.  Their daughter was in the marching band.  We were surprised that this was our kids first football game.  We lost but it was fun to attend.  Afterwards we went to the Dolbins for tacos where LaNae helped Tessa finish the quilt they had been working on.

LaNae Dolbin invited Tessa over to quilt 2x a week.  It turned out so cute!

Our last big hurrah before school was going to the Toledo Zoo with Cheryl and Cara Johnson. The next night they invited us over to their theater room to watch our Concordia production of Oklahoma!  They were our biggest theater fans in China.  They moved back to Michigan a year before we did so they missed seeing Oklahoma.  They loved it and cheered and clapped and sang along which made James and Eliza feel loved.
