Earlier this month John mentioned that he was going to leave very early on October 24th, fly to New York City, attend meetings and fly home late that night. "What? You're going to New York City…can I come too?” With Emma, our super nanny, at home to help—little trips like this are possible. John even agreed to take Wednesday off so we could tour together. The last time we were in NYC was the summer he did an internship with GE and Emma was just a baby. I booked my tickets with frequent flier miles and Ford covered the hotel. Emma made sure to have those three nights off work.
While John was in meetings all day Tuesday my friend MeLinda took the train over from Philly and we spent all day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She is an art buff so it was fun to explore the museum with her. John’s meetings were with ReD, a strategy consulting firm focused on human sciences. He said they met in the Standard Oil building in Rockefeller’s old office with a view of the Statue of Liberty.
John met me on 45th street for dinner at Junior’s Restaurant and Bakery. MeLinda told us it has the best cheesecake. We had tickets to the musical Anastasia, per Emma and Eliza's recommendation when they went in Septmeber. We wanted to see Hamilton or Dear Evan Hanson but tickets were $400 each. Anastasia was such a sweet and well done musical. We loved it. Wednesday we walked across the street from our hotel to Battery park. We took the ferry to the Stature of Liberty and enjoyed listening to all the facts on the headset tour. We then walked through Ellis Island and were fascinated with the immigration process. I especially liked the American history timeline and the parts featuring the Mormon Trail. We had pizza on the street and gelato at Eataly. We spent hours in the 9-11 museum. We felt like it was well done, very moving, and we learned things we didn’t know. It was such a fun, quick trip but it was nice to get home to a clean house, kids tucked in bed and freshly baked cookies waiting for us. Emma is hired!
